Open Range: Creating Forward-Thinking Towables
RV Manufacturer: Open Range RV Company
Located in: Shipshewana, Indiana
In business since: 2007
Types of RVs: Fifth Wheels, Travel Trailers, Toy Haulers
For over 30 years Randy Graber worked in the RV manufacturing and retail industries, where he became known for his “out of the box” development thinking. He worked for two of the top manufacturing firms, where he gained the experience to start his own company. Backed by the support of his wife, Pam Graber, Open Range was incorporated in 2007. Today they are known for their high quality and unique fifth wheels and travel trailers.
In just under four years, Open Range has expanded to producing fifth wheels, travel trailers, light fifth wheels and toy haulers. Manufacturing has grown to two plants in Indiana with over 300 employees. Today they are the second largest privately held company manufacturing fifth wheels.
You’ll be surprised with what you’ll find when you’re looking for a new fifth wheel, and Open Range is a leader in innovation. They are known for their high gloss metallic silver gray exteriors, while most other trailers for sale are white. Their models have more room with less weight. All of their products are over 100” wide while the industry standard is 96”.

Along with receiving such accolades as the RVDA Quality Award in 2008 and 2009, the company is actively involved in community service projects. For example, Open Range proudly works with Habitat for Humanity in Indiana. Their employees each donate one dollar a week from their paychecks and they look forward to building a house together as a company.
They take environmental responsibility seriously by working closely with a manufacturer of a product called Symalite. Symalite is a recyclable, low-emission alternative to the traditional Luan wood typically found in RV walls. Luan is a wood found only in Indonesia and is seriously reducing the rain forests that once thrived there. Not only are there environmental benefits to Symalite, but it is superior to Luan for the lamination process and makes the entire RV more lightweight in general.
Backed with years of industry experience, cutting-edge technologies and forward-thinking business practices, it’s no wonder consumers are attracted to these ultimate towable homes on wheels. Seeing how far they’ve come in a short period of time, La Mesa RV is an RV dealer that is proud to carry their products. How do they do it? It’s simple. “Open Range works very hard every day to provide the highest quality product in the market,” states President Randy Graber, “We work to make a safe and reliable RV for our consumers.”
