Find Work on the Road as an RV Voyager

Work on the road
Imagine living part-time in some of the most scenic parts of the country, escaping the extreme hot or unbearable cold, seeking out exciting destinations.  Now imagine getting paid for it.

For many full-time RV vacationers, this is becoming a reality with work camping: short-term employment for those on the road.  While work camping, you are able to see the nation in your RV one job at a time.

Jobs on the road are more than just cleaning up campgrounds in exchange for a place to stay.  Many parks need computer or office help, and tourist attractions look for assistance during the summer.  Amusement parks are a big employer of work campers, with Disney World being a big player.  Numerous Orlando RV travelers are finding themselves with seasonal positions at the Happiest Place on Earth.

Another major employer is Kampgrounds of America (KOA).  With over 450 locations, you’ll be able to find work anywhere you take your motorhome.  The organization even hosts seminars designed to prepare you for working at their campgrounds.

According to a press release from Kampgrounds of America this month, Northern California RV travelers looking for work are in luck.  On April 21 they are offering a free one-day session of KOA Work Kamper Boot Kamp training at their Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay KOA Campground, approximately one hour from La Mesa RV Dublin.

Boot Kamp teaches aspiring workers top-level customer service practices and KOA’s quality standards to make them a valuable candidate at their locations.  Attendees will also be able to virtually meet KOA owners to find jobs in other places in the country.  This event is free for subscribed KOA Work Kampers (membership is $35).  Registration for this event ends on April 6.

For additional job searching resources, Workamper News offers job listings, resume tips, forums, and more to help you find your next job on the road.

If you’re not quite at the full-time RV level yet and are looking for a job in an industry you love, La Mesa RV is always looking for fantastic individuals to join our team in Arizona, California, Florida and New Mexico.  Check our employment opportunities on our website for more details.

  1. It is a great idea! While camping doing part time job always thrill for full time campers. Road side job is always difficult but if you do with your friends that should be funny also.
