La Mesa RV is proud to announce that we recently hired Dawn Landisi as a service technician in their San Diego location. Normally considered a male dominated field, Dawn has been warmly welcomed to the ranks of service techs at the California store.

Since she was 12, Dawn has loved ‘wrenching’, a term commonly used to describe working as a mechanic. “As a child I loved taking things apart, then putting them back together” she replied when asked what sparked her interest for the automotive and RV industry. She loves being under the hood and got her start in her dad’s garage where she would come home after school to help on family cars. Her first truck was a ’76 Ford pick-up and her passion for mechanics continued to grow so she signed up for Auto Shop and Metal Shop in High School with the goal of being coming a certified mechanic.

Ms. Landisi received her mechanics degree at Cuyamaca College in San Diego and took her first position in the automotive industry at the Tire and Lube department at a local Wal-Mart. From 1996 on she worked in big automotive dealerships and independent auto shops but felt the desire to push herself even more. She went on to get her Class A and Class B licenses driving semi-trucks for two years. But after years on the road the San Diego native decided that it was time to settle down in a career with opportunities for growth. She choose the RV industry because of the competitive pay and the variety of daily differences she would experience.

Dawn is the first female technician hired by La Mesa RV and is on her way to becoming a Master Certified Technician. She is excited to be a part of the La Mesa RV team and hopes to inspire other women to join her in the service department.

Yvette Broderick, Director of HR, has been looking for qualified mechanics to bring on board to offset the busy season which begins at the end of March. “We couldn’t be happier to have Dawn as a part of the La Mesa RV family. She is well qualified and dedicated to her career. We are happy to have her and hope she is the first of many more females to work in one of our service departments.”

  1. Being a mechanic for large vehicles like RV's and trucks seems like it would be a lot of work. Especially compared to smaller vehicles. Although in its own way, it could be a little easier. The larger the parts, the easier it is to see what you are doing. Moving the parts is just the thing that you have to worry about.
